Caltrans will install a temporary pedestrian walkway on the west side of Buena Vista Street between Winona Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard to enhance pedestrian safety while work is underway to widen the Buena Vista Street overcrossing. The temporary walkway will open for use the week of February 2, 2015. The sidewalk on the east side of Buena Vista Street will be closed temporarily.
The widening of the Buena Vista Street overcrossing, which is necessary to construct carpool lanes, is part of the I-5 Empire Project. Pedestrian walkway details:
WHAT: Temporary walkway to enhance pedestrian safety.
LOCATION: West side of Buena Vista Street between Winona Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard. See map at right.
WHEN: The temporary walkway will open the week of February 2, 2015, and will remain in place for approximately 10 months.
WALKWAY DESIGN: The walkway will be six feet wide with concrete barriers along the edges topped by fencing. The fencing will be covered with green screening on the side adjacent to the construction zone. The walking surface will be asphalt concrete. Lighting and a walkway cover will be added in future construction phases.
FLAGGERS: Flaggers will be used when necessary to enhance pedestrian safety in the construction zone.
