The Canyon Grille, DeBell Golf Club’s recently renamed restaurant, threw open its doors to the public for a Grand Reopening party on Friday, April 11. Close to 300 people from the community attended, including Mayor Emily Gabel-Luddy, Councilmembers Jess Talamantes, Bob Frutos and Gary Bric and a representative from Assemblyman Mike Gatto’s office.

Golf course regulars, the general public and several members of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Board, the Burbank Veterans Committee and Burbank On Parade, along with other City departments and groups, mingled and mixed.

Scott Scozzola took over all operations of the facility as DeBell’s General Manager on January 1. Tom Shayman, owner and operator of the Burbank Bar & Grill, works with Scozzola and oversees The Canyon Grille, which soft-opened in January with a recently revamped menu.

Mickey De Palo, a member of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Board, the Burbank Veterans Committee and numerous organizations in Burbank, spoke to the crowd for a few minutes to open the evening’s presentation.

De Palo thanked Scozzola and Shayman for inviting the Burbank Veterans Committee to the Grand Reopening event, which also served as a fundraiser for upkeep of the McCambridge Park war memorials.

“I know when there’s a good party like the one tonight, it’s good to be brief,” said Gabel-Luddy, as she wished Scozzola and Shayman continued success.

Scozzola thanked Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Judy Wilke and her staff for their support and Shayman for the reworking of the restaurant operations.

Party goers sampled a large selection of small bites drawn from the Grille’s new menu, including mini beef sliders, barbequed pork sliders, seared ahi tuna on a homemade tortilla chip, homemade macaroni and cheese in tiny cups, two kinds of salad and numerous desserts.

Jerin & Johnny, a local vocal and guitar duo, performed popular tunes. People spread out on the outside patios and decks and throughout the large California Craftsman-inspired restaurant, enjoying expansive views over the city and Hollywood Hills to the south.

Mr. Shayman and I were extremely pleased with the turnout,” Scozzola said after the party. “All of the comments were very positive.”

The Canyon Grille and DeBell Golf are trying out some new ideas and approaches and are working on ways to communicate those options for fun, sport and entertainment to the public.

The golf club continues to be popular for charity organizations’ tournaments and special events, including the locals-favorite Sunday Couples Night event. Burbank residents and students receive discounted rates on regular course play during the week and on weekends.

The Canyon Grille has some new ideas in the works and debuts a special menu for the reservations-required Pasta Night Friday evening, April 18. The Grille also holds a reservations-required Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 20.
