Boys Basketball:

Burbank 55 Loara 43

Burbank upset the No. 15 seed in Division IA with a suffocating defense and an opportunistic offense. Sarkis Karium scored 17 points, Anthony Kardosh added 15 and Andy Yankyan had 12 in the impressive road victory.

Trailing 28-25 at halftime, Burbank held Loara (20-8) to only four field goals and 15 points in the entire second half. Karium connected on nine of nine free throws while stepping up in the absence for captain Richard Elmoyan, who played only five minutes due to illness.

The Bulldogs (16-12) will host No. 2 seed Santa Monica (21-6) in the second round on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

 

Cypress 50 Burroughs 40

Seniors Lawrence White and Jorge Flores-Pere scored 18 and eight points respectively for the Indians in the Division IA first round game. Burroughs trailed only by five points entering the fourth quarter but couldn’t convert from the foul line (15 for 27 overall). The Indians finish 15-12 on the season.

 

Bell Jeff 78 Bishop Diego 56 (Guards advance to the quarterfinals to play at No. 1 seed Village Christian on Tuesday at 7 p.m.)

Desert Christian 72 Providence 66 (Christian Ware-Berry scored 37 points as PHS ends season at 10-17)

 

Girls Water Polo:

Lompoc Cabrillo 7 Burroughs 2 (The Indians season came to an end in the first round of the CIF Division V playoffs. Ahsha Earwood had 21 saves to conclude a spectacular career as the team’s goalie. Burroughs finished at 13-10)
