Saturday, October 26, Burbank Police Department’s COPS Bureau along with police departments across Los Angeles County offered the community the chance to bring old and and unwanted over-the-counter medicines and prescription drugs for proper disposal.

Burbank residents brought old prescriptions in bags, boxes, wastebaskets and single pill bottles to the drop-off location located in the rear parking lot of the police station.

The Drug Take Back Program started a few years ago when it was discovered that unwanted prescription drugs were being flushed down the toilets, polluting waterways, and others were being put into the trash, ending up in landfills.

This past Saturday, the collection of unwanted  drugs was 220 pounds, the most ever collected in recent years. The drugs were boxed up and transported to be disposed of in a incinerator.
