Two Arson Fires Over Holiday Weekend
There were three suspected arson fires over the New Year’s weekend. On December 31, just before 1 a.m., there was a fire in a automobile repair shop at 2814 N. San Fernando Blvd. At 2:15 a.m., a Chevrolet Corvette was burned while parked in a driveway in the 2100 block of N. Rose St.

Weapon Found in Backpack at Airport
On December 19, around 9 a.m., TSA screeners at Bob Hope Airport found a weapon in carry-on luggage. The screeners found a metal throwing star in a backpack. Jonathan Robert Hayes, 24, of Fillmore, identified himself as the owner of the backpack. He was placed under arrest by Airport Police Officers, and booked into the Glendale Jail on misdemeanor weapons charges. His bail was set at $20,000.
Rental Burglary Ring Routed, Loot Left Behind
On December 16, at 3 a.m., a driver for United Rentals, located at 203 W. Olive Ave., pulled up to the front gate and noticed that the lock had been cut. He walked around the block to the rear gate of the business on Orange Grove Ave. and observed a white van parked there. It was similar to the vehicle used in several burglaries at equipment rental businesses in the Los Angeles area. When officers arrived, they searched the business using a police dog for about 2 ½ hours. No suspects were found,l but the white van was loaded with equipment taken from United Rentals, including large generators, compactors, and other construction equipment. The van was impounded as evidence, and the Los Angeles Police Department was notified, as the two department cooperate in finding the suspects.
Moped Rider Injured In Hit & Run Accident
On December 15, at 9:06 p.m., a man riding a moped northbound on Sparks St. just north of Olive Ave., collided with a Ford Explorer. According to a witness who was turning into the Lenscrafters/Fresh & Easy parking lot, the Explorer was turning left onto Sparks when the moped struck it. The moped rider was thrown over the Explorer. The driver of the Explorer continued to drive up Sparks. The witness stopped to aid the victim, and called 911. Officers located the Explorer just up the street on Sparks, and the driver walked down a driveway and identified himself as the driver. They found methamphetamines in his pocket. The moped driver, Anthony Simile, 22, was transported by Burbank Fire Department paramedics to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center with a broken leg.
Suspect: Danny Garcia, 41, of Burbank, was arrested for felony hit & run, driving under the influence, and possession of drugs.
Catalytic Converter Thieves Thwarted By Resident
On December 13, at 5:30 p.m. a resident in the building entered the parking garage area and noticed two men underneath attempting to remove parts from a car belonging to another resident. The resident then called police. When officers arrived the men were still underneath the car attempting to remove the catalytic converter. They were in possession of burglary tools, and were driving a vehicle without license plates. They were placed under arrest for attempted grand theft, possession of burglary tools, and warrants for parole violation. Their vehicle was impounded.
Suspects: Jonathan Baloney, 24, and Darontay McClendon, 29, both of Los Angeles.
Police Capture Burglar Who Entered Home While Family Was Asleep
On December 13, at 4:15 a.m., the residents of an apartment in the 1600 block on N. Hollywood Way, awoke to find a burglar in their residence. The suspect had entered the apartment through a bathroom window. They recognized him as one of their neighbors. The suspect fled out the back door of the apartment. Officers located him a short distance away. He was identified as the man who had entered the apartment, and placed under arrest for burglary.
Suspect: Christopher Carrillo, 20, of Burbank.

Drunk Driver Crashes, Flees On Foot, Captured
On December 6, around 1:30 a.m. an officer on patrol observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed run through a red light. When the officers activated the red lights and siren, the driver refused to pull over, instead turning into an alley and accelerating. The suspect then crashed into another vehicle in the alley. The driver then accelerated in an attempt to get away, and ended up crashing into a fence. At that point he got out of his vehicle and fled the area on foot. Responding officer searched the area and took the suspect into custody 1:40 a.m., at Alameda Ave. and Maple St. He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and misdemeanor hit and run. A a records check revealed that he had outstanding arrest warrants for DUI, burglary, spousal abuse, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Suspect: Sukiasyan Harutyan, 25, of Glendale.
Theft Suspect Caught at Target
On December 1, at 2:20 p.m. loss prevention officers at the Target store at 1800 Empire Ave., in the Empire Center, recognized a man in the store as a subject who had committed numerous thefts at that store and other Targets stores in surrounding communities. They observed him concealing merchandise on his person. As the man attempted to exit the store without paying, they attempted to detain him. He resisted and attempted to flee. He was finally restrained until police officers arrived and took him into custody.
Suspect: Andrez Muniz, 29, of Granada Hills, arrested for robbery.
