Vehicle Overtuned In Collision at Olive, Verdugo & Sparks

Police and fire units responded to an accident May 26, shortly before 3 p.m. at the intersection of Olive and Verdugo Avenues, and Sparks St..   According to police, an Acura TL  driven by Soo M. Kim, 25,was heading east on Olive.  When he attempted to make a left turn onto Sparks St. his vehicle was struck by a Jeep Cherokee heading west on Olive Ave.  The impact caused the Jeep to roll over.
The driver of the Jeep, Kathryn Phipps, 40, was transported to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center with minor injuries.  The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Robber Grabs Woman’s iPad And Runs Away

On May 26, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a woman was loading items into her vehicle in the parking lot near Lowes at the Empire Center.  She had her iPad under her arm.  A man ran up behind her and forcefully grabbed the iPad out from under her arm.  The suspect then ran westbound out of the area.
Officers searched the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate him.  He is described as a Black man, 19-20 years old, 6 ft. tall, wearing a dark shirt and dark shorts.

 

Man Selling Marijuana To Kids Arrested

Recently, two middle school students were found to be in possession of marijuana at school.  Officers were able to obtain information from the students that they had purchased the marijuana from a man near the Northwest Library, located at 3323 W. Victory Blvd.

Members of the Vice/Narcotics Unit initiated an investigation and surveillance in the area of the Northwest Library which is in Foy Park.  Officers were able to identify the man selling marijuana. The investigation also led to a group of young people using marijuana at Izay Park, in the northwest corner of the parking lot near Clark Ave. and Griffith Park Dr.

On May 16, near the Northwest Branch Library, officers observed the suspect providing and selling marijuana to minors and adults.  They arrested Andrew Richardson, 19, of Burbank.  Richardson was booked into the Burbank Jail for possession of marijuana for sale.  His bail was set at $20,000.

 Late Night Eaters Get Robbed

Two people eating fast food at 3:30 a.m. were the victims of a pair of armed robbers.   The crime occurred on May 17.

The victims went to the Burbank Police Station to report the robbery. They told officers that two men approached their car as they sat in the parking lot of the Carl’s Jr. located at 1320 N. San Fernando Blvd.  One suspect with a handgun approached the driver’s door and asked the driver, “Do you want to die?”  The robber then demanded the driver’s wallet and cell phone.  The second suspect was on the other side of the car, and demanded the passenger’s wallet and cell phone.  Fearing for their safety, both victims complied with the robbers’ demands.

The two suspects went to a nearby get-away car and left the area.  The victims were able to give police a good description of the vehicle, which was broadcast to other law enforcement agencies.  A short time later, CHP offices in the Los Angeles area spotted the suspect vehicle with one occupant inside.  They arrested the occupant, Adrian Guerrero, 18, of Los Angeles.  It was later determined that the vehicle had been stolen in a recent carjacking.

Unicyclist Robbed On Street

A young man riding an unicycle was confronted by two robbers on May 7, as he was riding to a friend’s house.  The incident occurred at Olive Ave. and Orchard Dr., at 9:40 p.m.

The robbers order the victim to give them his stuff.  One of them then grabbed a musical instrument that the victim was carrying, before both suspects ran to a nearby vehicle.

The suspects are described as male Hispanics 18-20 years old.  One was 5’7” to 5’9” tall, with a thin build.  He wa wearing a black hooded  sweatshirt and black pants. The second suspect was described as being 5’5” – 5’7” tall, stocky build, wearing a black knit cap, a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and had a medium size black “gauge” style earring.   Their vehicle was described only a a dark colored, possibly green or black, SUV.

 

Armed Robber Forces Victim Into Closet

A Burbank woman was working inside her home in the 1100 block of N. Maple St. on May 4, at 11:45 a.m., when a man with a handgun approached her.  The suspect forced the woman into a closet in the home. The woman was able to escape out of the closet and run to a neighbor’s residence nearby, where police were called.

Officers arrived at the scene and searched the area, but were unable to find the suspect, who is described as a Hispanic or Armenia, 25-29 years old, 6 feet tall, 180 lbs., with a shaved head, brown eyes, and wearing a baggy dark gray long-sleeved shirt and gray pants.

It appears that nothing was taken from the woman’s home.

 

Passerby Scares Off Carjackers

A pedestrian walking by in the 200 block of S. Flowers St. apparently scared off a pair of carjackers.  The attempted carjacking occurred on May 2, at 10:15 a.m.
A woman was parking her car when two men approached.  One put his hands on the hood of her car, while the other suspect opened the driver’s door.  He grabbed the woman’s arm and attempted to pull her from her car.  The suspects were apparently scared off when the passerby appeared, and fled from the scene.

The suspects are described as two men 20-30 years old.  One was wearing a navy blue bulky jacket.
