Burbank Police arrested Roberto Martinez, age 22 and a resident of Thousand Oaks, for a felony charge of DUI after the vehicle Martinez was driving hit two parked cars and sheared off a city light standard on the 4400 block of Victory Blvd. at 12:32 a.m. today, March 24.
Martinez’ passenger, a 20-year-old female resident of Sun Valley, was asleep in the back seat of the 2005 Mercury Mariner Martinez was driving and was possibly ejected from the vehicle, according to Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department.
The female passenger sustained a one-inch laceration on the left side of her cheek below her left eye and complained of pain to the left side of her face, added Ryburn. She was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
When officers arrived at the scene, both occupants were outside of the vehicle. Martinez admitted to officers he fell asleep and hit a parked car, said Ryburn.
Officers noticed signs of possible DUI and Martinez failed to satisfactorly pass a field sobriety test. He was arrested for felony DUI and booked at the Burbank Jail. Because of the injury to his passenger, Martinez’ bail was set at $100,000 and he is due in court Wednesday, March 26.
The Mercury Mariner sustained major front end damage and was impounded. Two other vehicles, a 2002 Toyota Camry and a 2011 Nissan Juke, were hit and both sustained minor front end damage.
