Several local businesses have held fundraisers and are planning more in the coming days, for the victims of the recent Scott Rd. car accident that killed five area youths and left one survivor with serious injuries. Excell Cleaners, near the corner of Victory Blvd. and Buena Vista St., announces a week-long fundraiser, from October 5 -12, with 20% of all the proceeds collected going to families of the victims.
Bobs’ Big Boy on Riverside Dr. will also have a fundraiser for a 24 hour period from 6:00 a.m., October 8, to 6:00 a.m., October 9. Twenty percent of the sales from meals purchased with a special flyer from Bobs’, also found on their Facebook page starting the evening of October 5, will be donated to the victims’ families.
Fosters Freeze held a benefit car wash all day on Saturday, October 5. All three Ralphs grocery stores in Burbank ran a special fundraiser between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., with the proceeds from the sale of all root beer floats going to the victims’ families. The Hollywood Way sports bar and restaurant will donate 20% of its Saturday, October 5, evening sales to the families as well.
Excell Cleaners, open for about one year, is owned by Burbank residents, Max and Dawn Beno, who attended Burbank schools growing up. They now have children at Jordan and Roosevelt schools and some of the victims’ younger siblings attend school with them.
“As a parent with young children, tragedies such as this really hit close to home,” comments Mr. Beno. “As a lifelong Burbank resident, and part such a great, tight-knit community, we’re glad and fortunate to be able to give back at a time of need. The outpouring of support from the community has been beyond amazing.”
Excell Cleaners has numerous locations throughout the San Fernando Valley. Mr. Beno mentions that the business is very supportive of fundraisers for the community and its needs, and welcomes interested individuals to contact them. More fundraisers will be announced in the coming days on myBurbank.com and tweeted by @myBurbankNEWS.
