The first annual Empty Bowl Fundraiser, benefitting Family Promise of East San Fernando Valley (FP-ESFV), was held at the St. Finbar Community Center in Burbank. FP-ESFV provides safe shelter, meals and support to homeless families with children and serves the geographic area that includes North Hollywood, Burbank, Glendale, and Eagle Rock through the participation of an Interfaith Hospitality Network of local congregations and volunteers. At Empty Bowl, hundreds of attendees purchased their tickets, selected a handcrafted ceramic bowl donated by local artists and then got into the soup line to choose their soup provided by area restaurants. Participants then took their empty bowls home with them as a symbol of the struggles and uncertainty homeless families face daily. The Empty Bowl Fundraiser was a collaborative effort of nearly 100 potters and artists, over 20 restaurants and retailers, sponsors and scores of volunteers from area congregations, who came together to build community and strengthen lives!
