The 3rd Annual Cardboard Box City benefitting Family Promise of East San Fernando Valley is scheduled for Saturday, October 15 at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 16 in the parking lot of the Church of the Incarnation, 1001 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale.
Prospective residents pay or raise pledges of $100 or more (like a walk-a-thon) for the privilege of staying overnight in Box City. Participants bring their own box “home” or a pop-up tent and other comfort items. Creativity is encouraged! Cardboard Box City is open to people of all ages and affiliations. Service organizations, school service clubs, and youth groups are encouraged to use this event as a community service and service learning project. Activities and entertainment will be geared for families, and participants will sleep outdoors in a secure area. A minimum of one adult per five youth under the age of 18 is required.
Prizes will be awarded for the most creative dwelling and most money raised by an individual, group, or family. The top fundraiser will be named Mayor of Box City! Entertainment and activities will include a scavenger hunt, crafts, music and more.
