Burbank firefighters received a call at 12:17 on Wednesday morning of a possible brush fire in Wildwood Canyon above the Castaway Restaurant.

A full brush response was dispatched which included an additional Battalion Chief from Glendale.
Upon arriving at the scene, Engine 16 reported that they smelled smoke in the area and the informant who called in the fire directed them back into Wildwood Canyon to the access road that serves the Police Firing Range.
About 30 yards up the hill was a small brush fire that had just started and quick work by firefighters surrounded the blaze and were able to knock it down before it spread to the trees in the area, which could have erupted the fire along with flying embers.
Firefighters were able to knockdown the fire at 1:05 am and remained on scene until they had 100% containment. The fire covered a total about about a quarter acre in rugged terrain.
Police were dispatched to take a statement from the witness and a fire investigator was also dispatched to try and find the cause of the fire. The results have not been released as of this time.
There were no injuries reported.
