Have you ever wondered about the strange double wide street with a park as part of it on the southwest part of Burbank?
It has large electric Towers on it and also a nice sized piece of park land. But Why is it so wide as opposed to other streets and called a “Highway”?
Originally, it was the dream of George Gordon Whitnall to make A highway that ran from the valley to Hollywood & Downtown L.A. as a way to link all the city centers together. His highway would include two long tunnels through the Griffith Park mountains.
His vision began with the opening of the only finished part of the highway System he envisioned in North Hollywood and Burbank.
Today this is the only part of his vision that remains.
