Valarie Fleming, an award-winning veteran nurse administrator, is the new chief nursing officer at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center.
Fleming, with more than 20 years nursing experience – 15 in administration – is the former assistant chief nursing executive at sister hospital Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance.
“Val is a seasoned nurse executive and was the clear choice of  everyone who met with her,” said Barry Wolfman, the Burbank medical center’s chief executive. “She has a proven track record of achieving goals in a collaborative way and shares our strong commitment to working with physicians and nurses to provide the best care for our patients.”
Fleming was with Providence Little Company of Mary for six years where her areas of executive leadership included critical care, cardiology, respiratory and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. Fleming worked at several other Los Angeles area medical centers before coming to Providence in 2005.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for me to lead the nursing staff at Providence Saint Joseph as we continue to advance as the Valley area’s leading medical center,” Fleming said. “This hospital is known for being on the leading edge in health care, while holding firm to the basic of nursing: compassionate care.”
