
Former Officer Anthony Valento pleaded guilty to one count of False Statements to Law Enforcement (18 USC, Section 1001) on Thursday in U. S. District Court.
Valento was indicted last November after he tried to influence prosecutors in the case of his girlfriend and her former husband.
According to a release by the Burbank Police Department, Chief Scott LaChasse would like to reassure the community that this situation involved criminality by one Burbank Police officer. The Burbank Police Department immediately initiated an administrative investigation when the possibility of misconduct was evident. The Burbank Police Department sought the assistance of two allied law enforcement agencies in the investigation. The Department worked with the FBI and the Unites States Attorney’s Office in investigating the matter
Chief La Chasse has not reviewed the court proceedings at this time and due to the pending sentencing hearing, no further statements will be made.
Valento will be formally sentenced on May 12, 2014.
