Burbank fire was dispatched to a report of a fuel spill near the intersection of Burbank and San Fernando Monday night around 6:20 pm to find that a delivery truck had a damaged fuel tank and was spilling diesel oil on the streets.
It was determined that from the time the truck left the I-5 Freeway at Burbank, there was a trail of diesel fuel that led all the way to where the truck stopped at the Ikea loading docks.
Firefighters determined that between 50 and 60 gallons of fuel had spilled from the tank leaving the streets extremely slippery for motorists and forcing Burbank police to close the area to traffic.
Burbank fire dispatched their Hazmat unit to help stop the fuel from entering the storm drain system as well as making the proper State notifications for the spill. Burbank’s Public Service Department also responded to help manage the street cleanup and police gathered information for possible cost recovery from the truck company involved.
No injuries were reported and the streets were open within a couple of hours to normal traffic.
