Former Mayor Al F. Dossin, who was remembered by colleagues as still passionate about the issues facing his beloved community, passed away in Burbank on Feb. 28. He was 84.

Services have been scheduled with viewing from 5 to 9 Tuesday evening at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills and graveside services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn.

Among the longtime Burbank resident’s accomplishments were being elected to the Burbank City Council in 1985, and appointed mayor in 1988, former Mayor Mary Lou Howard said.

“He was deeply committed to the city he was entrusted to serve, passionate on the issues and challenges it faced and committed to effecting a positive path throughout all his years of service,” Howard said.

Dossin loved living in Burbank because it had a small-town community feel, Howard said.”He liked the fact that no matter where you went, you would run into someone you knew,” she added.

Even though his political service was long behind him, Howard said Dossin was still very concerned about and supportive of the airport, very supportive of the police and fire departments and all the city employees.

“Because he thought they made Burbank what it is,” she said.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Elizabeth Dossin. Mr. Dossin is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and longtime friends Mary Lou Howard and Don Brown, a commissioner on the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority.
