Golf has been one of the most competitive sports in the city and this year should be no different. Last year in five league matches, Burroughs scored better than Burbank three times. Burbank was the better team in the other two matches and the Bulldogs won the Burbank Cup, a head-to-head rivalry match between the two teams.
The following is a look at the young golfers who will be competing for the local schools.
Burbank
The Bulldogs had a solid team last season and return senior captain Seiji Frye, who was one of the best in the Pacific League.
Fellow senior captain Jonas Harmon is also back. Seniors Lincoln Zick, Liam Collazos, Noah Grigorian and Harris McCormick give the Bulldogs a veteran group.
Juniors Tristan Torossian and Dominic D’Alfonso are both promising returners.
Burroughs
Junior Seth Malapote is the defending league individual champion and should be a strong contender to repeat.
Fellow juniors Dominic Lingad and Jarren Parungao are also very strong. Seniors Tyler Jones and Noah Rios are the veterans fighting for a spot on varsity. Junior Ethan Pieri, sophomores Kahleo Palma, Jhared Concepcion and freshman Uriah Dominguez will also be in the mix to play varsity.
Providence
The Pioneers are young, but eager to succeed.
Junior Julian Blum and sophomores Jake Koval, Neal Wadia and Matthew Hay are the veterans.
Camden Abbott, Dax Winterhalter and Owen Boyd are freshmen who will fill out the rest of the squad.
