Hector Valencia has resigned as football coach at Burbank High School after five seasons. Valencia compiled a record of 37-20 during his time including making the CIF playoffs in four seasons.
Under Valencia, Burbank reached new heights the program had seldom seen before. The Bulldogs won a school-record 10 games this past season and reached the CIF Southeast Division semifinals for the first time in school history.
Burbank won a league title in Valencia’s first year at the helm in 2009, the first for BHS since 1972. The Bulldogs finished in second place three different times.
Among his other accomplishments, Valencia led the Bulldogs to victories against Burroughs in the “Big Game” in 2009, 2012 and 2013. That marked the best stretch of success for Burbank vs. its cross-town rivals since winning three straight from 1983-1985.
Valencia graduated from Burbank in 1993 and instantly brought credibility to a program that mired below mediocrity for many years. Now the Bulldogs feature a high-octane offense and aggressive defense that has raised the level of excellence in the program.
