The Burbank City Council on Tuesday approved a request by the Downtown Burbank Partnership to install an ice skating rink in the parking lot behind City Hall this holiday season. The rink will hopefully attract shoppers and restaurant customers to the downtown area.
The ice rink, which will open November 22 and close January 5, 2014, will accommodate up to 165 skaters at any one time during a 90 minute session that can be purchased and will be approximately 50 feet wide by 82 feet long and will be run by Ice America. The rink will be open 10 am to 10 pm except for Friday and Saturday night when it will remain open until 11 pm
All of the costs associated with the rink will be paid by the Downtown Partnership and there will be no cost to the City or taxpayers. Concern over parking regulations came up and although most spots are set for 90 minutes, there are a number of garages in the City that have longer parking times. The rink will only take up approximately 60 parking spots.
While the rink is operational, the weekly Farmer’s Market held at that spot will be relocated to the parking lot at the Community Services building.
It will cost approximately $12 for a 90 minute period of skating.
