’s Club luncheon held at Lakeside Golf Club.

Janice Johnson brought the beautiful costume jewelry she had on display to life with her explanation of how certain jewelry became popular. She explained that the trend toward costume jewelry began with mourning jewelry in the mid 1800s, when Prince Albert died. This enabled the commoners the ability to afford jewelry, including ebony and black jet.

Janice, a jewelry expert and owner of the Sherman Oaks Antique Mall, said in the 1920s rhinestones and Bakelite jewelry became popular, followed in the 1930s through 50s by designer pieces made by Trifari, Mriam Haskell, Coro and Weiss.

Following the presentation, luncheon was served and the guests perused the jewelry displays and were given the opportunity to purchase “favorite” pieces.

Gene Marie Watson, chairman of the group, thanked her committee incuding Sharon Terranova, Judy Gragg, Tish Sellers, Joan Chandler and Lorelei Kelley. Special thanks went to Beverly Jean Davies and Judy La Verde, who fashioned wonderful baskets for the opportunity drawing.
