Letter to the Editor:

In response to a recent letter to MyBurbank editor by Joel Sclossman taking issue with your position on citywide representation to the council for Burbank residents, I refer to my letter you published on 7/1/25 on how the owners of 20 registered horses in the Rancho neighborhood was able to extract $1.5 million for the construction of a new unattractive and wasteful horse trail on Riverside Dr., with a yearly budget of $50,000 for its maintenance.

The trail is never used by horses because it’s located on the north side of Riverside Dr. and has no connection to other horse trails on either end of it. It is located in front of the newly built apartment complex, where none of the residents own horses.

Thisl never-used horse trail boondoggle was, as I wrote in my letter, “a sop” to the horse owners of the so called Equestrian Neighborhood who had opposed the construction of the new apartment complex that is sorely needed in Burbank. Their ability to bully our city council is only because of their outsized political voting power.

If our Burbank City Council members were voted in by the entire  community, and answerable only to them as a whole, then we would not be in the perpetual situation where, as I put it, “the tail has been wagging the horse for far too long in Burbank”.
