Letter to the Editor:

Paul Gerard is a candidate for the Burbank Board of Education in District 3. He is running to be a trustee on the Burbank Board of Education. He is not running to be an educator in our schools.

For the past 4-6 years we have had a Board that has been primarily composed of teachers. Trustees on a Board of Education are not there to do the job of teachers. In fact, Burbank is blessed with a team of qualified, dedicated teachers that do an excellent job of educating the youth of our city.

The job of a school board member is to:
1. Establish strategic goals and a vision necessary to effective governance
2. Be knowledgeable of policies and governance processes
3. Hire and evaluate the superintendent
4. Approve an annual budget aligned with the vision of the district and ensure that fiscal stability is maintained
5. Serve as a leader in the community and an advocate for students and the school district

Voting for Paul Gerard will ensure that this community has a trustee that understands their job and is focused on it to guarantee that education of our children with clearly established goals and fiscal stability is the top priority of the district. Attention to honesty and transparency in all aspects of the work will be apparent in all decisions he makes.

A vote for Paul Gerard is a vote for quality leadership on the Burbank Board of Education.
