The area near the intersection of Frederic and Empire was locked down on Thursday as Burbank Police notified the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad after finding a potential live grenade in a Burbank home after conducting a search.

Burbank Police Narcotics Detectives recently began an investigation into drug sales at a home in the 2000 block of North Frederic Street. The investigation included surveillance of the home and the residents.

On Thursday, October 8, investigators watched the resident, identified by police as 44 year-old Peter Jacquin, conduct a suspected drug transaction in a nearby parking lot during the surveillance. After he was detained by police a short time later, investigators served a search warrant at the home where Jacquin’s wife, 44 year-old Deborah Charves, was detained.

The home was found to be in disarray with drugs and drug paraphernalia left out in plain sight and within reach of the couple’s 10 year-old son according to police.

Methamphetamine, heroin and evidence of drug sales were located and seized during the service of the search warrant. In addition, searching officers located, what appeared to be, a hand grenade in a dresser drawer.

The Los Angeles County Bomb Squad was requested to inspect the device. Upon arrival, the LASD Bomb Squad determined the device was potentially live and unstable and removed the grenade.  Further tests will be conducted on it.

The couple’s son was taken into protective custody and the Department of Children and Family Services was contacted. Jacquin and Charves were both arrested for child endangerment.

Jacquin was arrested for possession of heroin and methamphetamine for the purpose of sale.

They were both booked into the Burbank City Jail and due to appear in the Burbank Branch of the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, October 12.

Jacquin’s bail was set at $190,000, while Charves’ bail was set at $100,000.
