
BASEBALL–
Coachella Tournament
Burroughs won three out of four games facing strong competition along the way. The Indians beat Palm Desert (No. 4 in Div. III) and California (No. 6 in Div. IV) while losing their only game against Peninsula (No. 3 in Div. III). JBHS has won five of its last six games. Max DeAmicis and Cole Meyer were named All-Tournament.
Burroughs 4 Shadow Hills 3 (third place)
Max DeAmicis’ single to centerfield scored Anthony Pelayo (two hits) in the bottom of the 8th inning for the Indians win. Thomas Wilson threw 5.1 innings allowing three hits and two earned runs. DeAmicis earned the win in relief.
Peninsula 12 Burroughs 3 (semifinals)
Max DeAmicis hit a home run and Cameron Rodriguez added two hits, a double and two RBI’s for the Indians. Peninsula broke the game open with a nine-run fifth inning.
Burroughs 10 Palm Desert 5
The Indians upset the host and No. 5 team in Division IV scoring a season-high 10 runs on 10 hits. The runs piled up quickly (two in the second and fourth; three in the third and fifth innings). Max DeAmicis had two hits and two RBI’s and Max Haddad added two hits and two runs scored. Aidan Anding smacked a double and two RBI’s. Cole Meyer recorded the win going five innings and allowing three hits and no earned runs.
Burroughs 3 California 2
Anthony Bocanegra’s infield bunt-single drove in Cole Meyer in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Indians the win. In the top of the sixth inning, California appeared to have taken a 4-2 lead on a sacrifice fly and subsequent throwing error. However, the runner for California was called out for leaving third base too early when he tagged up. His run and the following run that scored on an error were erased and the game remained tied setting up the 7th for the dramatic win.
Danny Bustos threw five innings allowing seven hits and only one earned run. Spencer Malden picked up the win in relief throwing two innings and giving up no hits and no runs. Aidan Anding and Brennan Brown each had two hits.
Babe Herman Tournament
Burbank 4 Granada Hills 3 (see story)
Cameron Briggs drove in Ryan Porras with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Alex Minnick threw five innings allowing six hits and only one earned run and one walk.
Chatsworth 13 Burbank 0
Etiwanda 5 Burbank 4
Camden Palmisano had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Randy Higgens threw six innings allowing five hits and two earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts.

Diamond Bar Spring Fling Tournament
Lady Indians finish 3-0-1 in the tournament.
Burroughs 20 Montebello 6
The Indians scored 13 runs in the top of the 6th inning en route to a 22-hit performance. Nine different JBHS batters had two or more hits while seven had two or more RBI’s. Cheyenne Steward went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBI’s. Delany Nicol added two hits, three runs scored and two RBI. Tori Talavera had two hits, two runs and three RBI’s.

Danielle Ryan went 3-for-3 and earned the win in the circle

Kaitlin Okimoto went 2-for-3 with three RBI’s
Burroughs 10 Walnut 3
Tori Talavera went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI’s as the Indians rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the opening game of the tournament. Kaitlin Okimoto had two hits and three runs scored. Cheyenne Steward added two hits, a triple, one RBI, and was the winning pitcher allowing only one hit and no earned runs with four strikeouts.
Burroughs 8 Canyon Springs 2 (game one)
Michelle Santiago had three hits and two RBI’s. Cheyenne Steward threw a complete game allowing four hits, one earned run and no walks.
Canyon Springs 9 Burroughs 5 (game two)
Michelle Santiago collected two hits (double and triple) with three RBI’s.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL–
Burroughs defeated Arcadia 3-0 (25-7, 25-19, 25-7). Indians are 8-3 overall, 1-0 in league
Burroughs defeated Lakewood 3-2 (23-25, 14-25, 25-22, 26-24, 26-24)
Indians rally from down 0-2 to capture a victory on the road and improved to 7-3 on the season.
Burbank defeated Arcadia 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-16). Bulldogs are 10-1 overall, 3-0 in league.
Burbank defeated Claremont 3-2 (25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-27, 15-8). Bulldogs secure a big win on the road.

BURBANK:
Burbank High split squads on Saturday with the top distance runners competing in the APU Meet of Champions and some of the rest of the team competing at the Maurice Greene Invitational at Oaks Christian.
At Mo Greene, Andy Hurtado broke the school record in the discus, with his throw of 159-6.5 good enough for 2nd place. Other top 5 finishers included Martin Swan (1st BFS 110HH in 16.57 and 2nd BFS 300H 43.58), Josh Cantong (5th BV 400 in 50.61), Noah Powell (3rd BFS TJ 38-5 and 3rd BFS HJ 5-6), Andre Poladian (3rd BFS PV 9-3), and Julia Newton (3rd GV PV 9-3).
Notable performances at APU included Candela Fernandez clocking 11:02.95 in the 3200, setting a new FS school record and almost breaking the school record, which has stood since 1981. Other notable performances included Arsen Mkrtchyan (BV 800 1:57.78), Adam Navar (BFS 800 2:02.37), Sam Gorman (BFS 800 2:03.35), Gabriel Ellman (BV 3200 9:28.6), Ethan Moskowitz (BV 3200 9:31.93), Zeke Isbell (BFS 3200 9:53.64), and Jonas Macromalis (BFS 3200 10:16.5)
