Muir 31 Burbank 0

The Bulldogs were shutout on the road at the hands of the defending league champions. The injuries continue to pile up for Burbank as quarterback Ryan Meredith and Notre Dame-transfer fullback/linebacker/kicker Ryan Boyd were hurt. The Bulldogs travel to Glendale High for a Thursday night contest at 7 p.m.

With quarterback Andy Amela out for the game due to a concussion, the Indians turned to Aidan Anding and Aieson Timagos to run the offense out of a wildcat formation. With no true QB at the helm, Burroughs (2-3, 0-2) was overwhelmed by the Mustangs in the loss at Muir.

Anding scored two early touchdowns including a 78-yard run that propelled the Indians to a 14-7 lead midway through the first quarter. But without Amela directing the Indians attack, Muir (2-3, 2-0) shut down any attempt by Burroughs to throw the ball.

Muir broke the game open taking a 35-14 halftime lead as the Mustangs scored 35 unanswered points to win going away.

Chance Bell led the Indians with 128 yards on 25 carries. Michael Ospina also had a stellar game for JBHS who travels to play Hoover at Glendale High School on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Ojai Invitational

The Bulldogs dominated the Ojai Invitational at Lake Casitas on Saturday.  In the large school girls race, Candela Fernandez literally ran away from the field. Her winning time of 17:47 was not only more than 2 minutes ahead of the next competitor, but it was also the 6th fastest time ever run on this challenging 5k course, home of the Ventura County Championships. The next four finishers to cross the line were also wearing Bulldog blue, as Caroline Adams (20:10), Alexia Hatun (20:29), Gabby Collins (21:05), and Hannah Erickson (21:16) completed the sweep by the Lady Bulldogs.

In the large school boys race that followed, Enrique Vizcaino of Burbank took control early and never relented the lead, winning the race in 16:19.  He was followed by Adam Navar and Justin Smith, who finished 2-3 with times of 16:52 and 16:54 respectively. Jonas Macromallis (7th- 17:26) and Tanner Payne (9th- 17:37) rounded out the Bulldog’s top five.
