Burbank Police Officers responded to the area of Victory Place and Maria Street regarding a traffic collision between a vehicle and a motor scooter Thursday, December 17, at about 5:03 pm

Upon arrival, officers found the motor scooter rider, identified as 34 year-old Davin Christopher Smith of Valencia, down in the roadway suffering from serious trauma. The motor scooter was being consumed by fire.
Paramedics treated Smith at the scene while firefighters extinguished the flames.
Smith was transported to a nearby hospital in grave condition where he was later pronounced dead as result of injuries suffered in the collision.
Preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle on Maria Street stopped at the stop sign at Victory Place and waited for traffic to pass. The driver of the vehicle then began to negotiate a left turn onto northbound Victory Place when the motor scooter struck the vehicle broadside.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was interviewed by traffic investigators. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. No citations were issued or arrests made.
This collision remains under investigation by Burbank Police Traffic Detectives.
