The L.A. County District Attorney’s office filed murder charges today, January 22, against Moises Diaz, age 40, for the murder of his mother, Maria Diaz, age 77, after the L.A. County Coroner’s Office released the cause of death this afternoon. The Coroner’s post-mortem examination of the victim showed she died from “asphyxia by neck compressions,” which could mean strangulation by hands or use of an object.
Diaz is currently in the custody of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department on a $1,000,000 bail. Additional information about the arrest of Diaz can be found here.
The Burbank Police cannot comment on the L.A. Coroner’s reported cause of death or provide further clarification as the investigation is ongoing, according to Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department. The BPD ask for anyone in the area of the south alley of 4000 W. Victory Blvd. between 6:00 p.m. Sunday. January 19, and 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 20, to contact the police at 818-238-3210.
