Burbank City Manager Mike Flad is suspending the nationwide search for a permanent Chief of Police.

The decision to put the search on hold follows the announcement that Flad is leaving his position at the end of October to accept the city manager job with the City of South Gate.

According to the Burbank City Charter, the City Manager is solely responsible for hiring the Police Chief. Due to Flad’s impending departure, the recruitment process will remain on hold pending the arrival of a new city manager.

“In talking with several potential applicants for Chief of Police, it became quite obvious that the City Manager position needs to be filled first,” said Flad.

The Burbank City Council has already begun discussing the process to replace the City Manager. Police Chief Scott LaChasse will continue to serve as interim chief of the Burbank Police Department.
