For the eighth consecutive year, the Burbank City Council has declared  November “Burbank Temporary Aid Center Month,” and we’ve already seen the start of several events held throughout ‘BTAC Month’ to assist BTAC in helping Burbank’s working poor, needy seniors, and homeless.

The Boys & Girls Club of Burbank and Providence St. Joseph Medical Center have kicked off Food Drives for Thanksgiving items distributed to BTAC clients for Holiday Meals.  The Glendale CPA firm Larson & Rosenberger, LLC is conducting its annual ‘Turkey Trot Challenge’ with the goal of gathering 4,000 lbs. of Turkey!

Among the single day events, on Nov. 8 the Gordon Biersch Restaurant and Brewery in Burbank will conduct one of BTAC’s most popular fundraisers, a “tapping.”  Gordon Biersch’s WinterBok will make its 2011 premier appearance at the tasting event, which includes raffles and auctions for Gordon Biersch gift items, all to benefit BTAC.

Other ‘BTAC Month’ events include more food drives, fundraisers, toy collections and related efforts. ‘BTAC Month’ encourages the community to work together in helping those who need it most.

“The level of need in our community has soared in recent years, and it’s even had an impact on those who have been our reliable supporters for years,” said Barbara Howell, BTAC’s Executive Director.  “So with BTAC’s every day challenge of keeping pantry shelves stocked for the upcoming holiday season, we’re facing requests for assistance at record levels, and looking for resources to help make up for those who were once our supporters having had to cut back, or even become clients.”

“This community has always been a tremendous ally and asset for us,” Howell said.  “The holidays are always extremely busy for BTAC.  But ‘BTAC Month’ helps us prepare for that,” Howell said.

Here are details on the Gordon Biersch “Tapping Event.”  It’s followed by a listing of all the events throughout November.  For more information, call (818) 848-2822, ext.110, or consult our web site at www.TheBTAC.org  At the web site you will also find a list of the food items most urgently needed.
