Police were called to the 2000 block of North Ontario Street on July 31, at about 10:55 amby a resident to report that an unknown male had entered her unlocked back door. Once confronted by the resident, the male fled on foot, without taking any property.
Officers respondeding to the area saw the suspect, later identified as John Gonzalez, a 29 year-old resident of North Hollywood, and tried to detain him, but Gonzalez fled the scene on foot. Additional responding officers established a perimeter with the assistance of the police helicopter.
Shortly afterwards another officer saw the suspect as he got into a getaway vehicle and he was detained without further incident. The resident was able to positively identify Gonzalez as the person who entered her residence.
The victim was unharmed. Gonzalez did suffer minor abrasions consistent with what one might sustain from jumping over fences.
Gonzalez was arrested for Residential Burglary, 459 PC. He is also out of prison, on parole, for 1st degree (residential) burglary.
He is being held without bail and due in court on Tuesday, August 4.
