Sunday evening, October 13, a Burbank Police helicopter crisscrossed the city, assisting BPD Patrol Units on the ground with a few incidents. Around 5:35 p.m., BPD officers were dispatched to the area of Olive Ave. and Brighton St. regarding two vehicles following each other after a traffic collision. When the officers arrived at the scene, the BPD Air Unit saw both vehicles enter the westbound 134 Freeway and exit at Cahuenga Blvd.
The suspect, Alexander Ruano, age 23, was driving a 2002 Chevy Silverado truck across the lanes of traffic, nearly colliding with parked vehicles. BPD cars caught up to the truck at Cahuenga Blvd. and Addison St. but the vehicle did not stop until near Addison St. and Strohm Ave.
The truck stopped in the middle of the street and when officers contacted the driver, Mr. Ruano, they observed symptoms of alcohol intoxication. Mr. Ruano was arrested for suspected DUI, booked at the BPD Jail and his truck impounded.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision arrived at the scene and identified Mr. Ruano as the driver of the truck which had struck his car. He did not report any injuries. Additional charges may be filed against Mr. Ruano for hit and run.
After that incident, the Burbank Air Unit observed a motorcycle moving fast and performing “wheelies,” in the area of Glenoaks Blvd. and Lamer St. at 7:20 p.m., the evening of October 13. The helicopter watched the suspect until police cars were able to arrive and stop the 2007 Honda MC operator, Hovsep Demirjian, age 21, in the area of Glenoaks Blvd and Walnut Ave.
Mr. Demirjian was cited for vehicle code violations and arrested for several outstanding warrants. He was booked at the BPD Jail, according to Lt. Eduardo Ruiz, of the Burbank Police Department.
