Thursday evening around 5:55 pm, Burbank Police officers responded to a shooting call at Lundigan Park, 2701 Thornton Avenue. One person, a 21 year-old male from Burbank, was shot once in the lower body. He was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and is listed in good condition.
One male was seen running from the scene. He got into a vehicle occupied by two additional people, including a female. The vehicle, described as a four-door Lexus, fled west on Thornton Avenue.
Based on the information obtained from people at the scene and nearby, Burbank Police detectives initiated a surveillance of a vehicle they were familiar with and which fit the suspect vehicle description.
Friday morning, the suspected shooter got into the car and drove to a female’s home in the 200 block of S. Keystone Street, in Burbank. A short time later the suspect and a female exited the home and entered a different car, driving away.
Later at about 11:00 am, investigators stopped the second vehicle, with the assistance of patrol officers and detained two people. They are identified as Erik Manooki, 19 year-old a gang member from Sunland and 22 year-old Candice Richardson of Burbank. It is believed Manooki is the shooter in this case and Richardson instigated the crime as retribution related to a prior gang related incident.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the Lexus, which was believed to be the getaway car and which Manooki was seen driving earlier in the day. A revolver was located in the Lexus with empty casings still inside the cylinder. It is believed the gun located in the car is the weapon used in the shooting at Lundigan Park Thursday night.
Manooki and Richardson were booked for attempt murder with an allegation that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang. Manooki is being held in-lieu of $2,066,000 bail and Richardson’s bail has been set at $2,040,571. The bail totals include outstanding warrants each had for their arrest. Both Manooki and Richardson are due to appear in the Burbank Branch of the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, February, 9.
The third person in the getaway vehicle has been identified and interviewed by detectives, but not arrested as of this evening.
