Burbank may not be at the doorstep to the Pacific Ocean, but Providence High has put together a girls beach volleyball program that is now in its fourth season.
The Pioneers are coached by Athletic Director James Jimenez and Sam Tozlian and compete in the Liberty League along with Pacifica Christian, Le Lycee, and Milken.
Last year the Pioneers finished second in league to Pacifica and qualified for the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs, losing to Capistrano Valley in the first round.
This season the Pioneers have four returners, none of which are seniors.
Junior Sarah Swinhart is back and will team with partner, Betsabe Osario, who is a freshman.
Sophomore Larisa Minasyan is also back. She is teaming with fellow sophomore Chloe Denoushi.
Sophomore Roxie Kreamer is back and is teaming with sophomore Casilda Cruz.
Sophomore London Polanco is also returning and is partnering with freshman Hannah Lewis.
Juniors Emily Steward and Sydney Forlano are a team of newcomers, as is the team of sophomores Liv Buhay and Anna Hovhannisyan.
Michelle Martinyan is a newcomer who will fill in where needed.
Most matches are played at Sorrento Beach in Santa Monica.
