A quick-moving brush fire started at 3:15 pm on Saturday afternoon. Burbank Fire was dispatched to a reported auto fire in the brush on Walnut near the Par 3. Burbank Engine 16 got on scene and found a well-seated fire moving quickly uphill; they called for additional assistance for the balance of a Brush Assignment. Verdugo Fire Dispatched A Full Brush Assignment, and it was determined that even more equipment was going to be required.
With Fire Equipment enroute, backup equipment started backfilling the empty fire stations. The third alarm included Air Support from Los Angeles City Fire and Los Angeles County Fire Dept. Camp Crews and water tenders were also requested.
Burbank Fire had quickly boxed in the brush fire, but not before the required evacuations of DeBell Golf Course, along with The Clubhouse and Restaurant. A concert scheduled for Starlight Bowl was quickly canceled for the safety of guests, performers, and City Employees.
The cause of the fire was determined to be the auto fire that hit a tree and exploded. Fire personnel remained on scene through the night and the next day to prevent any flare-ups. Burbank Police closed several streets and assisted in the evacuations.
