Engine 16 was the first to arrive at the scene and reported that they could see heavy fire coming through the windows in one of the rooms in the house.  They also reported that the homeowner was already outside and safe.

Besides the first alarm assignment of three engines, a truck and a rescue ambulance (RA), an additional two engines and another RA were dispatched over worries that the fire might spread to the structure next door.

Quick work by firefighters knocked down the fire by 4:33 a.m., with no additional damage coming to any of the other nearby homes.  One firefighter was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center for a precautionary checkup.

An investigator was called to the scene.  The cause of the fire has not yet determined.
