This Saturday, August 13th from 8pm-11pm , Burbank Temple Beth Emet will honor 25 years of dedicated service by Rabbi Mark Sobel. Rabbi Mark joined Temple Beth Emet as Educational Director and Rabbinic Intern under the tutelage of the late Rabbi William Kramer in 1986. He has been the spiritual leader since Rabbi Kramer’s retirement in June 1996.
Under Rabbi Mark’s leadership, Temple Beth Emet expanded its involvement in the community, including supporting the Burbank Human Relations Council, Valley Storefront and Burbank Temporary Aid Center, interfaith activities, and social action programs including Mitzvah Day and Family Promise. Temple Beth Emet particularly values its friendship with St. Jude’s Episcopal Church, where their High Holiday services are held.
Since 1958, Burbank Temple Beth Emet has been an independent congregation with its roots in the Reform movement. The basic philosophy is that a synagogue should be a house of worship, study, and of gathering. It tries to be a place where all Jews feel welcome and comfortable. Where members learn from each other and grow together. They accept people wherever they are in their Jewish experience, and offer the opportunity to grow in the direction they choose.
Saturday night’s activities will include a short sundown service with a Western flair, BBQ supper and hoe-down fun including line- and square-dancing by West-Coast Western Events. This event is free but contributions are welcome! Temple Beth Emet is located at 600 N. Buena Vista St. For more information or to make reservations please call: 818/843-4787, write: office@templebethemet.com, or visit their website www.templebethemet.com.
