It always seems like all we only hear negative things, when it comes to young people (13-16), especially when they are hanging out and/or skateboarding at the local park.
But I have a different story, that I wanted to share.
First off, I would like to let you know that I need the assistance of a cane or walker to help me walk. On November 25th, I was heading to my weekly evening swimming class at Verdugo Park, where I suddenly felt my walker collapsing and I completely tripped and tumbled down to ground short of the entrance of the swimming pool.
About 100 feet away or so, there were four young men (ages probably 13-16) riding their skateboards around the park area. They noticed that I had fallen and they all sprinted over to help me get back up and they even fixed my walker, picked up my swimming bag for me and continued to ask me if I was ok. I told them I was ok and thanked them for their help and kindness.
As you can tell, I was very impressed by their actions and kindness, and felt it was my duty to pass this information on so that others can hear the good about young people.
I would like to end this note by saying that there really are many good young people and I feel we need to recognize this fact with less negative comments about the young people and more praise and thanks for them … They are our future!
Thank you kindly for listening,
Cathy

Thank you for writing & publishing this positive narrative of local teens. If everyone posted their positive stories of our caring, giving, local teens it would discount the very few negative stories that are exploited!
