Salsa under the Stars returns this summer with live salsa music from the John Burroughs High School Jazz ensemble, a full dance floor, dance lessons, food and drinks.

Salsa Under the Stars-6Influenced early in his career by be-bop giants Charlie Parker and Dizzie Gillespie, Cuban jazz giant Arturo Sandoval helped to shape the modern face of Latin music and jazz mainstream.  He lends his support again this year to John Burroughs High School’s Salsa under the Stars event, and participates in an ongoing mentoring program with the JBHS music program.

Presented by the JBHS Instrumental Music Association, the Burroughs Jazz Ensemble led by new Band Director Taylor Arakelian will perform evening sets of spicy salsa standards and swinging syncopated sambas, with dance lessons offered to teach all ages and experience how to step to the music.

Salsa Under the Stars-3Taco plates from Tacos Medina will be available at the event, as well as desserts and drinks.  Blankets and folding chairs are encouraged, and picnic baskets are welcome.  A raffle for exciting prizes will accompany the event.

Pre-sale tickets are available and encouraged through September 17, General $7, Student/Senior $5; tickets the day of the event are General $10 Student/Senior $7.  All ticket and concession proceeds directly benefit the JBHS music program.
