Rep. Adam Schiff met with Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo today – two of the plaintiffs in the Supreme Court case about California’s Prop 8. During the meeting, Schiff, Katami and Zarillo discussed their hopes for the decision tomorrow, LGBT rights and the recent momentum across the country. The decisions in the Prop 8 and DOMA cases are slated to come from the Court tomorrow.
“It was wonderful to meet with two of the plaintiffs in the Supreme Court case on Prop 8 this afternoon – Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo,” said Schiff. “These constituents from Burbank are the true face of the fight for marriage equality – two loving partners who want one of the most basic rights of citizenship open to all Americans…the right to marry the person you love.
During the meeting, they discussed current efforts across the country to achieve marriage equality, important legislation pending in Congress like the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), and the progress that has been achieved already, especially recently.
Schiff continued, “It’s my hope that marriage equality will soon be the law of the land, and that tomorrow the Supreme Court strikes down both Prop 8 and DOMA as unconstitutional. Anyone meeting with Paul and Jeff can’t help but be moved by their desire to enjoy all the rights and responsibilities of marriage.”
