One of the most exciting events leading up to a bride and groom’s big day is picking out the wedding rings.

Media City Jewelers displayed a glittering array during the Burbank Town Center’s Bridal Show on Sunday. Amanda Dekermenji was at the Media City Jewelers booth while her father, Edward Dekermenji, was minding the store, which is also in the Town Center.

“My Dad specializes in customizing rings,” she said. “He appreciates older setting styles and is inspired by family heirlooms.”

Grooms stopping by their booth were asking Amanda about the different metals for settings, she said. The price of white gold is so high, men are opting for Black Tungsten and Cobalt Chrome for their weddings bands. And men generally go with a wider band, she added.

Black Tungsten is darker metal and quite popular now. Cobalt Chrome is a brighter metal and looks more like the white gold.

Another contemporary option is the black ceramic wedding band, but it has been slow to catch on, Amanda said.

“I think they think it’s more masculine, but they try it and they think it doesn’t look like a wedding band,” she said.

When talking about bridal sets, about 60% of women choose a straight band and about 40% of women opt for a cupped band, where two wedding bands wrap around the diamond engagement ring.

Some brides like the eternity band, where the diamonds are set all the way around the wedding band.

“But if the ring size changes, you have to grow or shrink the size of the diamonds — so it’s a lot of work for the jeweler,” she said.

Another popular setting is the halo style, which Amanda said is a single large diamond encircled by a halo of smaller diamonds.

A newer trend is a colored center stone, like the gemstone Morganite, which is a light pink.

“Brides choose a colored stone if they want something a little different,” Amanda said.

Another decision couples face is where to have the wedding. Calamigos Equestrian, on the grounds of the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, has many romantic backdrops available for saying “I do!”

Bruce Barton, marketing and operations manager, was at the Bridal Show telling couples about the wedding venue’s three banquet rooms and three outdoor ceremony sites.

“It was fantastic!” Barton said about the Bridal Show. “We had a lot of brides interested in touring the venue. We were very happy with the result.”

Calamigos Equestrian is having an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to introduce bridal couples to the venue. The rooms will be set up so couples can see
how picturesque their ceremony can be. And the wedding sales team will be there to meet the couples attending.
