Burbank has been a Host Town and home to Sister City Special Olympiads from Botswana and Zimbabwe this past week and on Friday there was a special Burbank FAN-tastic Farewell as our guests departed Woodbury University, their home for the last couple of days.
Several hundred fans, friends and Burbank supporters were on hand to wish the Olympiads good luck as they compete in the Special Olympics World Games this week.
Burbank Mayor Bob Frutos along with his fellow City Councilmembers were on hand to greet and say good-bye and good luck.
City Manager Mark Scott addressed the audience and appeared on stage with Warner Bros. Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny who came out to wish the athletes well. The local athletes will be among 7,000 athletes competing this week. The guest athletes got to see the home of Warner Brothers days earlier, followed by a special tour of the home of Walt Disney.
Members of the Zimbabwe team will be competing in golf which can be seen in Griffith Park during the week while other team members will be competing in sports such as track & field and soccer.
The Los Angeles Equestrian Center will be host to several equestrian events this week and all events are free.
The athletes deserve everyone’s support. They have accomplished plenty and will show the world how sports can change everything for the better.
