The Sixth Annual St. Francis Xavier Golf Classic took over DeBell Golf Club and course on Friday, October 24. While the kids studied at school, their parents and local businesses hit the links to raise funds for the private Catholic school.
“The Golf Classic is one of St. Francis Xavier’s bigger fundraisers with the proceeds going towards improving the education at St. Francis Xavier School,” commented Rita Recker, Business Manager at St. Francis Xavier.
“Last year’s profits went towards improving the infrastructure of our wifi,” she continued. “We were able to bring fiber optics to the school”
“Each classroom can now run their SmartBoard while at the same time the whole school can utilize iPads, although at the current time only our junior high uses iPads,” Recker went on to say. “Wifi is also available from every corner of our campus. We have had no down time this year with the new improvements.”
Approximately 120 players attended the event, playing a full 18 holes of golf and participating in the putting contest and enjoying cold drinks at the popular margarita hole. Tournament participants enjoyed a buffet in the DeBell Clubhouse, along with the awarding of the prizes.
The Golf Classic raised $10,200 for the school and exceeded expectations, added Recker. Next year’s event is already on the books for Friday, October 23, 2015.
