Traffic Accident Results in Pedestrian Seriously Injured

Burbank Firefighters and Paramedics worked feverishly to free a trapped pedestrian who was standing at the base of the 3800 W Alameda Ave. “Disney” building at Kenwood Street, Kenwod Street  late Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred in the intersection of Alameda Street and Kenwood Street and sent both cars up onto the sidewalk.  One of the cars struck two pedestrians, trapping one of them between the hood of the car and the wall.  The man, who suffered traumatic injuries to his leg, was transported by ambulance to the trauma center at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.  The other pedstrian was also take to the same hospital.

A passenger in the car was also trapped in the vehicle.  Firefighters had to cut the person free from the car before transporting them to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. 

 The incident required a Fire Engine, two Truck Companies, and all three of Burbank’s Rescue Ambulances along with a Battalion Chief.  Burbank Police blocked the streets around the accident scene.

The names of the drivers involved and the victims have not yet been released by police.  The accident remains under investigation.

Caltrans Closes Alameda Offramp for Two Months

As part of the improvements, crews will be removing the existing asphalt pavement on northbound I-5 Alameda Avenue off-ramp and replacing it with concrete pavement. This work will also accommodate the addition of the new carpool lanes for the widening of the freeway. A long-term closure of northbound I-5 eastbound and westbound Alameda Avenue off-ramps will be necessary to complete this work. Sunday, December 9, 2012 through Friday, February 8, 2013   9 p.m. to 6 a.m. (60-day continuous closure).

Caltrans will make every effort to minimize any inconvenience to you. You may hear construction noise, but it will not exceed levels allowed by state and federal regulations.

Fatal Traffic Accident Closes Burbank Intersection

Burbank Police and Fire units were called at 5:41 a.m. Sunday, to the scene of a traffic accident at Buena Vista  St. and Alameda Ave/

Upon arrival they found that one vehicle was hit directly in the side and had veered off the road into a fence at Disney Studios, after first shearing off a fire hydrant   Paramedics  immediately pronounced one of the occupants from the vehicle deceased at the scene.  Fire Department personnel were able to shut down the water from the hydrant that gushing up onto the roof of the Disney building.

Repair crews were at the location  a few hours after the accident, removing the heavily damaged “Mickey Mouse” fense that surrounds the building.  The building itself also sustained some damage.

Burbank Police quickly closed down the intersection to proceed with their investigation with the closure expected to take the entire morning on Sunday.  One person has been taken to jail and booked for vehicular manslaughter.

The cause of the accident along with the name of the deceased has still not been released by police until next of kin are notified.  If you saw anything in the area, please call the Burbank Police at 818 238-3000

Bicyclist Found Injured In The Street

Burbank Police along with Firefighters and Paramedics responded to the 3800 block of W. Alameda Street Friday evening where they found a male victim suffering unknown injuries, and a bike sitting nearby.

Paramedics treated the victim before transporting him to LA County/USC Medical Center. Eastbound traffic was diverted onto Kenwood Street to Riverside Drive, during the field emergency.

Multiple Closures of Streets Planned Around I-5 Contruction Project

Flower Street Sewer Work/Temporary Full Street Closure 

 Caltrans is constructing a carpool lane on the Golden State Freeway (I-5) between the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank.

As part of the improvements, crews will begin excavation for the removal and replacement of the existing sewer pipe lines at the intersection of Flower Street and Providencia Avenue.

To ensure motorist safety, a full street closure of Flower Street will be required.  Local traffic on Flower Street and Providencia Avenue will be given access. You may hear construction noise during this operation, but it will not exceed levels allowed by state and federal regulations.

The closures will take place from ate October 2012/early November 2012 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

55-Hour Closure of Northbound I-5 Olive Avenue off-ramp 

Crews will be building a retaining wall on the northbound I-5 between Verdugo Avenue and Angelino Avenue as well as widening the northbound I-5 Olive Avenue off-ramp. This work will require the closure of the existing northbound I-5 Olive Avenue off-ramp to build a new temporary off-ramp during a 55-hour ramp closure.

The work will begin Monday night, October 29, through Thursday morning,November 1, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. (55-hour Closure).

New I-5 Construction Updates, Alameda Ave. to Experience Closures

Caltrans is constructing a carpool lane on the Golden State Freeway      (I-5) between the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank.

As part of the improvements, crews will be pile driving on the I-5 median at Alameda Avenue. The piles will provide structural support necessary for the widening of the freeway.

There will be no lane closures on the freeway.

This construction activity will require a partial closure of Alameda Avenue. At least one lane in each direction will be open at all times. Flaggers will be on site to control the flow of traffic. Should traffic back up on Alameda Avenue, there will be a detour in place. Monday, September 17, through Friday, October 12, 2012 – Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m

You may hear construction noise and experience vibrations during this operation. Noise will not exceed levels allowed by state and federal regulations.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes, ramps, and connectors of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) and the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) as part of a $57.8 million improvement project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV or carpool) lanes in each direction along I-5 between SR-134 and Magnolia Boulevard. Closures are subject to change. Detours will be signed.

About the Project

This project is building a high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction along the Golden State Freeway (I-5) between the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, a total distance of 5.4 miles (2.7 miles in each direction). It is also constructing sound walls and retaining walls.

Two People Seriously Injured By Drunk Driver In Front Of NBC

A suspected drunk driver injured three people when she ran a red light Wednesday evening in front of the NBC Studios at Alameda and Olive Avenues.

Burbank Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the accident at 8:07 p.m.  Initial reports were that someone was trapped in one of the vehicles.  A fire truck company and an additional rescue ambulance were dispatched to assist at the scene.

According to police, the victims were heading westbound on Alameda Ave. in a 2001 green Ford Explorer, when the suspected drunk driver in a blue 1999 Jaguar going eastbound on Olive Ave., ran a red light. The 57 year-old driver of the Explorer saw the other car coming at him, but was unable to avoid the collision.  The Jaguar struck the Explorer nearly head-on.

The driver, from Venice, complained of pain to his left wrist, and would seek his own medical treatment.  One of his passengers, a 79 year-old woman, received lacerations to her mouth, and complained of chest pain.  She was transported to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. A 66 year-old man riding in the back seat of the Explorer received lacerations to his right eye area and upper lip, and spinal injuries to his neck.  He was transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.

The driver of the Jaguar, Maritza Luciano, 40, of Burbank, received three broken ribs in the accident.  After being treated at the hospital, she was arrested for felony drunk driving, and is being held on $100,000 bail.

 

Late Night Accident Sends One Driver to Hospital

Burbank Police received a call of an auto accident involving two cars in the intersection of Victory Blvd. and Alameda Street, with a person laying in the roadway.

Once they got on scene they discovered a driver of one of the cars involved was laying on the sidewalk awaiting paramedics, the driver of the other car still sitting in the drivers seat.

Police reported that one of the cars was traveling eastbound on Alameda and was struck by the other car that was southbound Victory Blvd. Paramedics transported one of the drivers although her passenger was not injured or was her pet dog that was not secured in the car.

The other driver refused medical treatment.

Burbank Firefighters Rescue Man Who Fell Into Flood Control Channel

Burbank Fire Fighters responded to a reported injured person lying in the flood control channel on Alameda Ave. east of Victory Blvd. Friday afternoon.

Upon their arrival the captain of Engine 15 requested a truck company to help with removing the injured person, due to the need for special equipment, such as a hoist  and a stokes basket. The man who was reported to be a 74 year-old Burbank resident,  either jumped or fell into the flood control channel.  The concrete-lined channel is approximately 20 feet below the street level.  Burbank police are continuing their investigation to determine what happened.

The victim was transported to LA County-USC Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries, but in serious condition. The fire department’s operation was under the command of Battalion Chief Ron Barone.  Burbank Police assisted with traffic in the area during the rescue.

Motorcyclist Seriously Injured at Buena Vista and Alameda

Motorcycle accident causes major injuries to rider, and closes intersection for a while. (Photo by Ross A. Benson)Burbank Police are continuing their investigation on this traffic accident that occurred yesterday afternoon at the intersection of Buena Vista & Alameda Avenue.

The rider of the motorcycle was transported by Burbank Paramedics to LA County Medical Center with major injuries to his hand and leg. The driver of the other car that was involved was not injured.
