Burbank Police Looking for More Burglary Victims

The Burbank Police Department is announcing the arrest of 43 year-old Glendale resident Armen Baghdaserians for his involvement in three burglaries from post-production businesses between August and October 2016 in the City of Burbank.

Armen Baghdaserians

Surveillance footage depicts Baghdaserians entering three post-production studios and walking out with high value merchandise. He selected the items, which included an Apple MacBook Pro, a desktop computer and a production camera and walked out of each business without raising suspicion or being confronted by employees.

Using surveillance footage from the victim businesses, Burbank Police Detectives were able to identify Baghdaserians as the person responsible for the thefts with a total loss of over $12,000.

Baghdaserians was contacted at Central Coin Laundry, 903 S. Central Ave., Glendale and placed under arrest by Burbank Police Detectives on November 9, 2016. During the on-scene investigation and questioning, investigators located clothing in a laundromat dryer Baghdaserians was using that matched clothing he was wearing while committing the burglaries in this case. The detectives also seized several credit cards in his vehicle that were stolen from Los Angeles area businesses.

The Burbank Police Department is working with other law enforcement agencies to determine if Baghdaserians is responsible for committing other similar crimes in other jurisdictions.

This case has been presented to the LA County District Attorney’s Office, who has filed five felony charges, including three counts of grand theft, one count of theft of an access card and identity theft against Baghdaserians for his role in the thefts at the following Burbank post-production businesses:

Teen Punched, Knocked Unconscious At Memorial Field

An apparent attempt to break up a fight between two other teens landed a 16 year-old boy in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, with a head injury.

The incident began Saturday, August 4, as the John Burroughs Football team was ending their practice on Memorial Field at the school.    George Tyler Heffley, a sophomore who is on the football team,  attempted to break up a fight near the basketball courts next to the field.  The fight started as an argument  between another member of the football team and a former student.  According to police, the victim was punched in the face by the former student when he stepped between the two boys,  then fell backwards and struck his head on the concrete  He was knocked unconscious.

The Burbank Police Department was called at 7:25 p.m. for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at John Burroughs High School.   Officers responding “Code 3” were directed to the visitor entrance to Memorial Field in the 200 block of N. Parish Place, where they found the victim lying on the sidewalk, conscious but disoriented.   The 15 year-old suspect was being detained by the football coaches.  He was wearing black tape used in boxing n his right hand, and had just come from a gym where he works out.

Burbank Fire Department Paramedics responded and treated the victim at the scene.  He was observed talking to the paramedics before they transported him by rescue ambulance to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.   According to police, who cannot release the victim’s name because he is a juvenile, he was admitted to the ICU.  Rumors spread quickly through the community, that the victim was on life-support and in a coma. However, a police spokesman confirmed that the teen’s condition was improving and he was not on life-support.  His condition is listed as serious but stable.

The suspect was arrested under section 243 (d) of the California Penal Code, battery causing great bodily injury.  The crime is a felony.  Because he is a juvenile, his name is not being released.   He was booked into the Burbank Jail, then released to his parents. He is scheduled to appear in Pasadena Juvenile Court on October 3.

Burbank Police Drill Suspect For Stolen Merchandise

During the months of November and December, the Burbank Police Department conducted four undercover “Holiday Crime Suppression Operations” in the area of the mall, the village, and the Empire Center. The operations were established in order to target thefts from vehicles during the holiday shopping season.

During an operation that was conducted Wednesday, December 28, the undercover officers observed what appeared to be a suspicious and illicit transaction take place in the Empire Center. Additional officers responded to their location, near Best Buy, and contacted the individuals. One of the individuals was there to sell a stolen, unbeknownst to the buyer, power drill that was arranged through an on-line advertisement. The suspect admitted that the drill was stolen. Burbank Police detectives placed the individual selling the stolen merchandise under arrest.

Detectives responded to the suspect’s residence in Los Angeles, where three additional stolen power tools, all brand new and in boxes, were recovered. Based on detectives’ preliminary investigations, it appears the drills were stolen from multiple Home Depots in the San Gabriel Valley.

The suspect, Julio Landeros, 24, from Los Angeles was arrested for 496(a) PC, Possession of Stolen Property, and an unrelated warrant.

Three Burbank Businesses Cited For Selling to Minors

The Burbank Police Department Vice/ Narcotics Unit conducted two undercover decoy operations in the last week. The operations targeted establishments, within the city of Burbank, who sell tobacco products and alcoholic beverages to minors.

It is illegal, under the California law, to sell tobacco products to minors and sell alcohol to individuals under the age of 21.

The Vice/Narcotics Unit, utilizing underage decoys, attempted to purchase tobacco products and/or alcoholic beverages from 34 businesses during the two-day operation. Three citations were issued during the operation, one for selling a tobacco product to a minor and two citations for selling alcohol to an underage decoy were issued.

The cases will be investigated and submitted to the city attorney’s office for filing consideration against both the clerks and the retail outlets. In addition, the businesses who sold alcohol will face administrative action from California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).
