The Canyon Grille Brunch Combines Best Of Both Menus

When we first visited DeBell Golf Club’s The Canyon Grille last year, we enjoyed the fantastic view, relaxing space and the terrific sandwiches, sides and salads. We profiled some of their tasty and creative sandwiches last year in this article highlighting some of the lighter lunches around town.

We’ve continued to visit The Canyon Grille several times since their grand re-opening, nearly one year ago. While the restaurant functions primarily as a breakfast and lunch spot for golfers, weekend brunch and dinner have added to the dining options.

The beautiful views and relaxed open-air California Art & Crafts-inspired space reinforces The Canyon Grille’s casual pace and slow-paced vibe. It’s perfect for a leisurely meal any day of the week, even if you’re not hitting up the links.

Recently, we stopped in to check out The Canyon Grille’s regular Sunday brunch, which they serve from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The brunch menu combines the restaurant’s more popular breakfast and lunch items. We tried out the Nutella Pancakes, French Toast, the California Omelet and Crab Cakes Benedict.

The verdict from all in our party: excellent, all around. Fresh fruit and sliced tomatoes evened out the cheese, sugar, cream, Hollandaise sauce and chocolate components of our meals.

Our waitress was very friendly and capable, and seemed to be the only one taking orders and making drinks for the several already-seated tables. While it did take several minutes for her to bring menus and waters and take our order, once the order was placed, the food was ready fairly quickly.

Our coffee and water refills were looked after and overall, service was very good and not intrusive. We enjoyed the view of the canyon and golf course surrounding the clubhouse and the leisurely pace of the meal.

The Canyon Grille continues to be a favorite spot for meals and drinks. We only wish it would be open later for dinner during the week and weekend. Understandably, The Canyon Grille functions primarily for the built-in clientele of the golf club, with hours limited from dawn to dusk. The Canyon Grille receives a Tops In Town; it’s a gorgeous restaurant with terrific dishes and a great retreat from the clatter and noise of the city.

Canyon Grille And DeBell Golf Celebrate Grand Reopening

The Canyon Grille, DeBell Golf Club’s recently renamed restaurant, threw open its doors to the public for a Grand Reopening party on Friday, April 11. Close to 300 people from the community attended, including Mayor Emily Gabel-Luddy, Councilmembers Jess Talamantes, Bob Frutos and Gary Bric and a representative from Assemblyman Mike Gatto’s office.

Golf course regulars, the general public and several members of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Board, the Burbank Veterans Committee and Burbank On Parade, along with other City departments and groups, mingled and mixed.

Scott Scozzola took over all operations of the facility as DeBell’s General Manager on January 1. Tom Shayman, owner and operator of the Burbank Bar & Grill, works with Scozzola and oversees The Canyon Grille, which soft-opened in January with a recently revamped menu.

Mickey De Palo, a member of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Board, the Burbank Veterans Committee and numerous organizations in Burbank, spoke to the crowd for a few minutes to open the evening’s presentation.

De Palo thanked Scozzola and Shayman for inviting the Burbank Veterans Committee to the Grand Reopening event, which also served as a fundraiser for upkeep of the McCambridge Park war memorials.

“I know when there’s a good party like the one tonight, it’s good to be brief,” said Gabel-Luddy, as she wished Scozzola and Shayman continued success.

Scozzola thanked Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Judy Wilke and her staff for their support and Shayman for the reworking of the restaurant operations.

Party goers sampled a large selection of small bites drawn from the Grille’s new menu, including mini beef sliders, barbequed pork sliders, seared ahi tuna on a homemade tortilla chip, homemade macaroni and cheese in tiny cups, two kinds of salad and numerous desserts.

Jerin & Johnny, a local vocal and guitar duo, performed popular tunes. People spread out on the outside patios and decks and throughout the large California Craftsman-inspired restaurant, enjoying expansive views over the city and Hollywood Hills to the south.

Mr. Shayman and I were extremely pleased with the turnout,” Scozzola said after the party. “All of the comments were very positive.”

The Canyon Grille and DeBell Golf are trying out some new ideas and approaches and are working on ways to communicate those options for fun, sport and entertainment to the public.

The golf club continues to be popular for charity organizations’ tournaments and special events, including the locals-favorite Sunday Couples Night event. Burbank residents and students receive discounted rates on regular course play during the week and on weekends.

The Canyon Grille has some new ideas in the works and debuts a special menu for the reservations-required Pasta Night Friday evening, April 18. The Grille also holds a reservations-required Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 20.

DeBell Golf Club Offers All-Day Wednesday Specials For Non-Residents

Outside_of_Debell___1_1Long known for preferential price points for Burbank residents, DeBell Golf Club has a new pricing special on Wednesdays: all players receive resident’s rates on greens fees. Typically, 18 holes of golf costs $24 for residents and non-residents are charged $31. So, the savings can add up for those who may not live in the city but want to get out and enjoy this gorgeous course in the Burbank Verdugos. Prices for both 18 and 9 holes and for seniors are all given at the resident’s rate from opening until close, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The regulation 18 hole and Par 3 9 hole courses are both kept in top condition, year-round. Golflink.com has named DeBell Golf Club “the best bargain for a top course.” Golfers do walk the course, but carts are a favorite because of the hilly terrain. Be on the lookout for all kinds of wildlife, including deer, coyotes and snakes.

DeBell also boasts the Craftsman style Clubhouse Grill, open all day, for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. Lessons, driving range and pro shop are also available. DeBell Golf Course will host the Burbank City Amateur Golf Championship in October, and hosts golf tournaments, high school play and Parks & Rec classes year round. For more information and to book a tee time, check out DeBell’s website at http://www.debellgolf.com/index.htm or call them at 818-845-0022.
