Armed Man Arrested at Burbank 7-Eleven

A 27-year-old North Hollywood man was arrested by Burbank police Sunday morning, October 28, around 3:30 am after officers were called about a man who was reported to have a gun in his waistband.

Police were called after witnesses reported a man inside the 7-Eleven store located at Naomi and Glenoaks who reportedly showed a handgun that was concealed in his waistband, to patrons and the clerk. Customers rushed out and met police to advise them of what they saw.

Police at the scene had a dispatcher help with communication with the suspect through the telephone and had him set down the gun and exit the front of the 7-Eleven.

The suspect, identified as Bismark Rivera-Gonzalez, 27, of North Hollywood, exited the store and was immediately taken into custody by police. Police entered the 7-Eleven and found the handgun.

Witnesses had told police that Rivera-Gonzalez brandished the gun in the direction of the store’s clerk while in possession of store merchandise. Police also said he was opening store merchandise inside the business while in possession of the gun.

Rivera-Gonzalez was booked for attempted robbery, carrying a concealed firearm, and an outstanding arrest warrant for public intoxication. He is currently out of custody on bond and is due in court November 20. The case is pending review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Two Suspects Arrested for Robbery and Staged Kidnapping

On Sunday, July 29 at 4:15 p.m., two women were robbed by two men at gunpoint in the Home Depot parking lot located at 1200 Flower St. One of the women was kidnapped, but was later discovered to have planned the incident with her ex-boyfriend who aided in the robbery.

When police arrived on scene, witnesses provided testimonies, initially believing it to be a robbery of two women and the kidnapping of one of the victims.

The investigation suggested the incident might be domestic violence related, and that the ex-boyfriend of the woman who was kidnapped might be responsible.

After several hours, the alleged kidnapping victim was located with her ex-boyfriend in Canoga Park. When she was questioned by police, she denied being kidnapped or robbed.

Detectives believed the incident was a conspiracy between the alleged kidnapping victim and her ex-boyfriend to rob the other woman in the Home Depot parking lot.

Both the woman and the man were placed under arrest for robbery. The female suspect has since been identified as Sylvia Silva-Cebreros, 26 of North Hills.

The male suspect has been identified as Jesus Lomeli, 26 of Pacoima.

On July 31, the L.A. County District Attorney’s office filed one count of robbery against Silva-Cebreros and Lomeli, as well as one count of possession of narcotics with the intent to sell against Lomeli.

Detectives are still investigating to identify the third accomplice.

Ulta Beauty Burglary Suspects Arrested

On Sunday, May 6 around midnight, Burbank Police responded to a call of a smashed window which activated a burglary alarm at Ulta Beauty in Empire Center, located at 1351 Victory Place.

When police arrived at the scene, they observed the shattered store front window and noticed a large amount of perfumes had been stolen. In a matter of minutes, police realized the missing products were attached to GPS devices, and were able to track their current location.

On May 7, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one count each of burglary and
grand theft against both suspects.

Suspect Fails to Steal ATM Machine with U-Haul Truck

On Sunday, February 26, at 4:15 A.M., a man attempted to steal an ATM machine at Arco Gas Station using a U-Haul truck with a chain attached to the back. When the suspect was unable to drive off with the ATM machine, he left the U-Haul truck and ran away.

The ATM machine suffered minor damage. A security camera near the machine might provide police with footage of the suspect.

The U-Haul truck used by the man was reportedly stolen from the Northridge area.

A witness described the suspect as a Hispanic male.

Porch Package Thief Arrested

On December 14 at 6:25 pm, Burbank Police responded to reports of a suspicious man who appeared to be eyeing vehicles to potentially break into at the 4200 block of Woodland Ave. Police soon arrested the Los Angeles man after discovering he was in possession of two packages stolen from a home on the 4400 block of Woodland Ave.

When police arrived on the scene, they detained a man who matched the description from a witness. He was later identified as Daronne Davis, a 33-year-old man from Los Angeles.

Davis wore a backpack, which he gave officers permission to search. The backpack contained the two packages he stole, which were addressed to a house living on the 4400 block. When questioned, Davis immediately confessed he had stolen the packages only fifteen minutes prior to their arrival.

Following the arrest, police contacted the resident who owned the packages. It was confirmed that they were stolen from the house’s front porch.

Davis was arrested for possession of stolen property and was placed in Burbank City Jail. He has since been released, and will be in court on January 8, 2018.

The Burbank Police Department wants to raise awareness of such thefts being a possibility throughout this holiday season, urging people to take precautions.

“The holiday season means an increase in package deliveries. It is not uncommon for packages to be delivered late in the evening, during darkness… If you’re expecting a package, try to be home to accept it or make arrangements to have it delivered at a time when someone is home,” stated Sgt. Derek Green in a press release.

“You should also require a signature for packages, especially those that contain valuable items.”

Chase Bank is Robbed for Second Time in 10 Days

Burbank police were called to the Chase Bank at Burbank and San Fernando for the second time this month at 2:23 pm on Monday when a teller reported that a male black around 60 years old, heavy set, bald with a white goatee, presented a note demanding cash.

After the man received the money he exited the bank toward Burbank Blvd. and was last seen on foot leaving the rear of the bank.  Police were on scene within one minute of receiving the call but were unable to find the suspect.

The robbery is very close as the last one on Saturday December 15 around 1:30 pm when Burbank police officers responded to the same location.  The unknown suspect (described as Male, Black approximately 50 years of age) entered the bank as a regular customer.

The suspect waited in line and when it was his turn, handed the teller a note.  The suspect was given an undetermined amount of US currency and he left the location.  There was no mention of a weapon and none was seen.

Police are investigating both robberies.

While Burbank Police were responding, their dispatcher was notified that one of the cars involved was being followed by a surveillance unit of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Commercial Crimes Unit. LAPD then directed Burbank marked patrol cars to Chestnut, west of Keystone, where a felony stop was initiated and one suspect taken into custody.

7th Grader Robbed On Way Home From Muir

A student from John Muir Middle School was attacked and robbed of his cell phone Thursday as he walked home from school.  The 14 year-old boy was walking northbound on Sixth St. at Cambridge Dr., when he was approached by an older teenaged boy.

When the suspect asked to use the victim’s cell phone, the boy refused and continued walking past Thomas Jefferson Elementary School on Cambridge Dr. between Sixth St. and Karen St. The suspect then came up behind the boy and slammed him into the fence around the school.  A struggle ensued, and the larger suspect was able to overpower the boy and take his cell phone.  An apparent accomplice then pulled up in a car, picking up the suspect and speeding away.

The getaway car is described as a 1978-80 model Honda Civic 4-door type model, charcoal gray in color, with a large, distinctive orange graphic design on the passenger side of the car.  The car has reportedly been seen in the area before.   The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 16-18 years old, with black hair.  He was wearing blue jeans and a blue v-neck shirt.  No description of the driver was given.

The Burbank Police Department is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the robbery to call the police at 818-238-3000.  If you see the suspect vehicle, try to get the license number and call police immediately.
