Magnolia Park Ladies And Gents Night Out Starts The Weekend Off

Summer nears an end with the last Ladies and Gents Night Out of the season on August 29 in Magnolia Park. While the eclectic shopping and dining district has more excitement planned for the September and subsequent monthly events, Friday’s shindig has a classic car show, over 30 food trucks and special events all up and down Magnolia Boulevard and Hollywood Way.

Opal Moon Henna, MadCap Balloons and The Boobe Sisters are just some of the featured guests at Friday’s event, along with special events at Audrey K, Romancing the Bean, Encore Nouveau, 8Ball and many more stores in the area.

Van Dorn Gourmets will hold a tasting with their custom mixed spices. Dylan Keith Salon also offers nail art and oxygen facials specials for Friday night.

“Along with caricatures by Aiden Casserly and silhouettes by Jordan, Dark Delicacies will be featuring ‘Back to Ghoul’ specials on horror notebooks, pencils, clings and stickers,” said Dark Delicacies’ Del Howison. “Out front we’ll have the Dia De Los Puercos foodtruck.”

A classic car show fills the lot at the UMe Credit Union, located at 3000 W. Magnolia Boulevard. Along with The Grilled Cheese Truck, people can dance to live music on a dance floor.

And the fun continues through Saturday, August 30, with a special event at Autobooks-Aerobooks and neighboring shop Creature Feature. The two businesses present Monsterfink, a celebration of hot rods with live music and food from 3:00 to 10:00 p.m.

New banners, in five different designs, have recently been hung on light poles in the district. Ongoing events such as taxidermy classes at Bearded Lady Vintage and new daily kids classes at Mia and the Dragonfly including music, dance, art, games and language are some interesting options in the area, according to Magnolia Park Merchants Association President Ashley Erikson.

The final Summer Movie Nights presentation of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is scheduled for Friday, September 5, at the UMe Credit Union parking area.

More information on the Ladies and Gents Night Out and other events can be found on the Magnolia Park Merchants Association website and Facebook page. Ladies and Gents Night Out is held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the last Friday of every month.

Magnolia Park Movie Nights Debut

Magnolia Park Movie Nights kick off with Friday’s screening of 80s classic, The Goonies. People are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket and picnics for the outdoor community event.

magparkmoviesFood trucks, including Rockin Ice (shaved ice food truck) and Baby’s Badass burgers, will be parked nearby. Rocket Fizz will sell soda and candy and a kettle corn vendor will be on site as well.

“We wanted to do summer outdoor movies to encourage more people to come out and spend their evenings and weekends in Magnolia Park,” commented Magnolia Park Merchants Association President Ashley Erikson. “We are about bringing the community together by putting on events like this.”

“The association is all about growing Magnolia Park as a place to eat, live, shop, ride and walk,” Erikson added. “We encourage people to ride a bike to the movie if they live in the area, as we are expanding as a ‘green district.'”

“We love the neighborhood,” said UMe Vice President of Marketing Anita Hutchinson. “Of course we want to be involved in our community.”

UMe Credit Union consistently participates in the regular Ladies and Gents Night Out on the final Friday of every month, in addition to supporting other special events in the Magnolia Park district.

“The more we help our neighbors and area businesses, the more we help our community, so we do whatever we can to enrich the community,” Hutchinson added, explaining that UMe Credit Union was founded in 1940 by a group of Burbank teachers and has grown over the years through a grass roots effort to settle in to its current home on Magnolia Boulevard.

The movie will be projected on a large screen against the wall of UMe Credit Union and people are encouraged to bring a blanket or chairs and sit in the adjacent parking lot. Previews, ads of stores in the area, run from 8:00 to 8:15 p.m. After the previews, The Goonies screens.

The Goonies‘ run time is just under two hours. UMe Credit Union is located at 3000 W. Magnolia Boulevard.

Santa’s Room is a Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC) program that has been operating for over 20 years collecting new toys, books and games for Burbank children, ages 16 and younger, who would not otherwise have much to look forward to on Christmas morning. At Santa’s Room, Burbank parents who request assistance with Christmas are able to “shop” for their child(ren) and select gifts from the available pool of donated items.

BTAC is dedicated to providing the poor, working poor, and homeless of the local community with basic services they need to live with dignity, and to serve citizens of the city in times of emergency and disaster.

UMeHelps is an initiative designed for the credit union to give back to the Burbank community at large, and for its members to also participate in the process. UMeHelps kicked off on June 1st with a month-long food drive to benefit BTAC, with over 500 items collected.

To participate in the UMeHelps Santa’s Room Toy Drive, please bring new, unwrapped toys to the credit union throughout the month of December. Visit umecreditunion.com for a complete list of acceptable donation items, in the news & announcements section.

UMe Credit Union Launches Community Support Program

Helping neighbors builds strong communities. Continuing a tradition of community support, UMe Federal Credit Union, in Burbank, is excited to announce the creation of a new program called UMeHelps. UMeHelps will provide assistance to the greater Burbank community by partnering with local non-profit organizations and focusing on raising money and goods for those in need.

As a local credit union, UMe is intimately aware of the hardship many of our community members have faced during these difficult economic times. Through UMeHelps, the credit union hopes to help relieve some of the burden and provide hope for our neighbors.

UMeHelps is a concept that began with the renaming of the credit union last spring. The new name, UMe, is a combination of YOU+ME, and is directly correlated to the strong personal relationship the credit union enjoys with its membership. In the same spirit, UMeHelps is designed for the credit union to give back to the Burbank community at large, and for its members to also participate in the process. UMeHelps will kick off on June 1st with a food drive for BTAC, Burbank Temporary Aid Center.

BTAC is dedicated to providing the poor, working poor, and homeless of the local community with basic services they need to live with dignity, and to serve citizens of the city in times of emergency and disaster.
