Acai Jungle Cafe Offers A Twist On Healthy Treats And Fresh Bites

After operating as an Ipanema-style beach stand outside of Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on Victory Boulevard for the past few years, Acai Jungle Cafe opened the doors to its brick-and-mortar restaurant on July 1. With unique flavors and an attention to nutrition, quality and sourcing, the cafe is a breath of fresh air in Burbank.

Building on the popularity of its fresh and healthy Acai Bowls, the cafe now offers salads and sandwiches, along with snacks, tea, coffee, shakes and smoothies. With several vegan and vegetarian options, Acai Jungle Cafe has something for most every taste.

The newly-opened cafe is light and bright, airy and stylish, with clean white surfaces and lots of green plants. Several cafe tables and a community table provide seating inside the cafe and benches dot the outside rainforest plant-lined patio.

Acai Jungle Cafe’s Acai Bowl is the perfect pick-me-up for those who seek a healthy option to ice creams and frozen treats. The Acai sorbet is made simply from Acai berry puree and organic cane sugar. The standard bowl comes in varying sizes with light granola, bananas and one topping.

Toppings are exciting and a nice change of pace from the typical frozen treat toppings and include fresh seasonal organic fruit, coconut, almonds, chia and hemp seeds, protein-packed goji berries, crunchy cacao nibs and protein-rich bee pollen.

We have tried three combinations so far, including the goji berries, cacao nibs and coconut – all were delicious and added zing to our day. The creaminess of the banana, fresh berry taste of the Acai sorbet and texture of the granola are an unbeatable combination.

The Matcha Green Tea Shake is a vegan energy drink made from matcha, cashew, lavender and sweetened with agave. It’s delicious and refreshing, my new favorite.

The cafe’s sandwiches and salads are fresh and creative. Our whole family has enjoyed the great flavors of the Pesto Chicken Panini, the Wild Tuna Tarragon Panini, the Portobella Mushroom Panini and the Vegan Quinoa Kale salad.

Our favorite sandwich right now is the Portobella Mushroom; the basil aioli is creamy and ties the whole sandwich of mushroom, wild arugula, tomato and red onion on ciabatta bread together.

The Vegan Quinoa Kale salad is also excellent and hearty enough to be a meal. Avocado, carrots, cherry tomatoes, goji berries are mixed with quinoa and tender kale. Topped with the basil ginger vinaigrette, the salad becomes a burst of flavor bite after bite.

The shop also stocks pre-packaged coffee, tea and snacks, including chips, chocolate bars and almond butter. Fresh Date Balls made with cashews, cinnamon, cacao and coconut are sometimes available at the counter.

For those who eat clean and healthy, Acai Jungle Cafe offers a lot of tasty reasons to stop by for a meal or a treat. The restaurant is a great addition to Burbank and receives a Tops In Town for their creative, colorful, nutritious menu and refreshing atmosphere and decor.

Healthy Bites Burbank Provides Fresh Flavors For Lunch And Dinner

Healthy Bites Burbank has been open for several years in Magnolia Park and consistently serves up delicious, filling meals that are healthy to boot. From the front entrance to the back patio, to the to-go bags and the artistic walls, the space is alive with color, and even more so than with its gorgeous snacks, meals and smoothies.

Made-to-order salads are crisp and alive with color, texture and flavor. With about fifteen different concoctions to choose from on the menu, including Strawberry-Spinach and Cabbage-Kale, they range from traditional Mediterranean tastes to popular favorites.

Wraps and plates, for the meat-eater, vegetarian and vegan, make up the heart of the restaurants menu. Falafel, lamb, beef and chicken are all prepared with flavor and style at Healthy Bites. Accompanying sauces – cool cucumber-yogurt, powerful garlic butter and more – add dimension to standard Mediterranean fare.

The Falafel Wrap was a serious family favorite – tender and only lightly fried. Fresh parsley, cucumber, lettuce and tomato were heightened with some excellent cucumber sauce.

The Shish Beef was fantastic and complemented by some of the best rice we have ever tasted. Roasted tomato and pepper were perfect to add, along with top-notch garlic butter spread.

While the Garlic Chicken Wrap’s chicken may have been a bit dry without the creamy sauce, with it, the wrap came together in a symphony of flavors.

By far my personal favorite, the Gyro was fresh and absolutely fantastic. I have had Gyros from the East Coast to the West and this one, my most recent, is a bona-fide hit, up there in the Gyro hall-of-fame.

Healthy Bites gets our vote for Tops In Town Mediterranean food, beating out other nearby Mediterranean restaurants with their emphasis on flavor and freshness. While the restaurant is long and narrow, with a few two-person tables inside, the back patio can accommodate about 30 people.

Most people get food to go and I see this as a perfect take-away meal for busy families and people. Healthy Bites also caters events. Weekly specials highlight a regular menu item and knock a dollar or two off the usual price. Check them out on Twitter, Facebook and on Instagram @healthybitesburbank.
