Texting Driver To Face Felony Charges

A driver whom police say was texting when he struck a pedestrian  has been charged with a felony.
The driver, Jerome Pangga Deveas, 24, of North Hollywood, struck an 84 year-old Burbank woman who was crossing the street at the intersection of Glenoaks Blvd. and Buena Vista St., in the accident that occurred on May 10, at 3:40 p.m.  Deveas was westbound on Glenoaks when he made a left turn onto southbound Buena Vista.   The pedestrian, who sustained serious injuries, was in the crosswalk.
The police department conducted a thorough investigation of the accident, determining that texting had significantly distracted the driver.  The case was turned over to Deputy District Attorney Norma Serna who made the decision to charge Deveas with reckless driving causing specified injuries.
