Yesterday morning, December 4, at 1:00 a.m., Burbank Police stopped to investigate a female arguing with a male in front of Sardo’s Grille and Lounge at 259 N. Pass Ave. The female had been kicked out of the bar by the male security guard due to her intoxicated state and was continuing to act belligerently. The police officer placed the woman, Maria Urena, age 35 from North Hollywood, under arrest for public intoxication. Ms. Urena then began arguing with the officers and spat on the supervising officer’s face at the scene.

During the booking process at the Burbank Jail while she was still handcuffed, Ms. Urena spat on the counter several times and kicked the female Jailer in the shin. Police decided to place her in the detox room, a safe room with a soft floor, due to her intoxicated and combative state. While the officers were taking the handcuffs off Ms. Urena in the detox cell, she bit an officer in the knee.

Ms. Urena was booked for felony assault on a police officer and her bail was set at $20,000. She has since bonded out and is due in court in January.
